Mini vs micro: the size guide
The number one question I get. The answer is height, not weight.
The sizes, as I grade them
- Micro: 11 inches and under at the shoulder.
- Mini: 11 to 13 inches.
- Standard: 14 to 17 inches.
- Weight runs roughly 20 to 45 lbs across minis and micros, depending on size and sex. Weight moves around with food and muscle. Height doesn't.
Spotting a fake mini
- Ask for the height of both parents, not the puppy's weight.
- Ask for video of the parents walking, not posed photos.
- Be careful with wide-angle close-ups. They make a big dog look tiny.
- Meet the dogs in person if you can.
