Picking a puppy
Buying & breeders
What Should I Ask a Bulldog Breeder?Ask about three things: health, transparency and ethics. Can I see the parents? Do you breed for health, not just structure: allergies, movement, breathing? Can I see the dogs on video, from every angle, and in person?
How Do I Avoid Bulldog Puppy Scams?Always FaceTime before you pay anything. You should see the breeder's face and mouth moving while they talk to you, say your name, and show you exactly what you ask for, live. A puppy video with a voice over it can be stolen from anywhere.
Should I Adopt a Bulldog or Buy From a Breeder? Both can be good, it depends on your situation. If you don't have kids, don't have other pets and don't need anything specific, adopting can be great.
Should I Look for Bulldog Breeders Near Me?If you find a good breeder near you, great. But a puppy is a 10-plus-year commitment, and statistically the best dog for you probably isn't near you.
Should I Get an AKC-Registered Bulldog Puppy?Yes. Whenever you're getting a purebred dog, I always recommend an AKC-registered puppy. AKC is the American Kennel Club.GuideMy only official accounts (scam warning)Mini & micro size
Are Mini and Micro English Bulldogs Real?Yes. And the number one question, "how do I know it's really a true mini or micro?", has a one-word answer: proof.
Mini or Standard English Bulldog: Which Should I Get?If the dog is properly bred, a mini has the same pros as a standard, in a smaller dog: easier to travel with, easier for everyone in the family to handle, less space, less food and lower costs. A mini runs about 25 to 45 pounds; a standard is closer to 60 to 80.
Mini English Bulldog or French Bulldog?Size-wise, a true mini or micro English bulldog is about the same size as a Frenchie. So the choice comes down to personality.GuideMini vs micro: size, height and weightHealth
How Long Do English Bulldogs Live? The internet says 8 to 10 years. I think that's false: all of mine have always lived longer than that.
Are Mini English Bulldogs Healthy? They can be, if they're bred for it. Health in a bulldog is mostly genetic: it comes from the parents and grandparents, so it's bred in, or it isn't.Feeding
Care
How Much Exercise Does an English Bulldog Need? Not a lot. Bulldogs aren't working dogs like German Shepherds. They need sun, fresh air, some play and short walks, and a lot of love. Use common sense: let them play as long as they're comfortable, and stop when you see them laboring.
What Should I Watch Out For With a New Bulldog Puppy? One: keep watching them after playtime, even indoors. A puppy can still overheat or get anxious after the fun is over: if it doesn't calm down, put it in a cool, quiet room.GuideThe bulldog care guideTraining
Temperament & family
Are English Bulldogs Good With Kids?Yes. In general, a bulldog should be very good with kids. Two things decide it.
What Is an English Bulldog's Temperament Like?A well-bred bulldog is naturally loving, sweet, super loyal and funny, usually really good with kids, friendly and outgoing. Overall, I think they're the best family companion dog. They're not barkers: if a bulldog barks, something's up.GuideIs a bulldog right for you?Growth & puppies
When Is an English Bulldog Full Grown?Bulldogs reach their full height and length at around 6 to 9 months. After that they keep getting thicker: they're fully developed at about 18 to 24 months, and males often keep thickening until about two years old.
What Are Newborn Bulldog Puppies Like, and How Are They Raised? Most bulldogs have their puppies by C-section: it's easier and safer for the mom. Because it isn't a natural birth, the puppies have to be stimulated and rubbed, and get oxygen to be safe, and I'm always in the room.Colors
Studs & breeding
What Makes a Good English Bulldog Stud?Three words: everything, time and data. A good stud has the full package (health, structure, functionality, temperament), and he's had the time to prove he passes it on: healthy puppies that grow up into healthy, well-built adults.
Can a Bulldog With Cherry Eye or an Underbite Be Bred?Yes, the puppies can be correct. If cherry eye or an underbite is the dog's only problem and it's excellent in everything else, I'd possibly breed it, but only to a dog that's perfect, with multiple generations of perfect behind it. Some things you never breed: aggression, hip problems.I haven't answered that one yet
