Common questions › Mini & micro size

Do Mini and Micro Bulldogs Stay Small, or Are They Just Puppies?

The short answer

Yes, when they come from generations of true mini and micro bulldogs. Bulldogs reach full height and length around 8 months; after that they don't get taller, they just get thicker.

And they're not runts. A runt is the smallest, weakest puppy, usually from poor nourishment in the womb, and it normally catches up in size. Properly bred minis and micros are born small but thick and healthy, and stay small.

Brulee, from a couple of days old to a full-grown true micro at 19 months.

From newborn to full-grown micro: Brulee

I know this looks like a puppy, but it isn't. This is Brulee: born here at DaBestBulls Ranch, from multiple generations of our dogs, and she turned out to be a true micro bulldog. We have the proof, because we have her now as a 19-month-old adult.

Here she is a couple of days old, then about two and a half weeks, then a little lanky growing up. We were never worried: she's a Fury daughter from one of our own female lines, so we knew the structure, health, temperament and function. Now she's a full-grown, healthy, super athletic adult. Watch her jump.

That's what generations of true minis and micros give you: the consistency of that small gene, with health and structure.

"She's not full grown": a year later

A lot of people say micro bulldogs are really just puppies. I showed Brulee at eight months, and everyone said she wasn't full grown and would get bigger. I said no: she's full height and full length, she's just going to get thicker.

Here she is a year later, at 18 months: the same height, the same length, just thicker. A few more pounds, thicker legs, a better head. Bulldogs are full grown around eight months.

Full-grown micro, next to a Frenchie

Are micro bulldogs real, or just hype? It's hard to tell: Brulee looks thick, but when a mini French bulldog walks in, you see how small she really is. She's a true adult micro English bulldog, fully grown.

Micro and mini isn't a fluke, it's a formula: bred from the foundation up, the proper way, with health, structure, functionality and temperament. And all our dogs are raised with the kids, so they come out confident, safe and well socialized. They look like little tanks, but they're sweet, loving little clowns.

Not a bunch of runts

A misconception: mini bulldog puppies are just runts. A runt is the smallest, weakest puppy at birth, usually from poor nourishment in the womb, and it normally catches up to full size. Ours aren't runts: they're well nourished, born small but thick and healthy, and they grow up to be small mini and micro bulldogs.
