Common questions › Mini & micro size

What Are the Pros and Cons of a Mini English Bulldog?

The short answer

Pros: a mini is compact, so it fits any living space and is easier to travel with (smaller crates, carriers, less to carry), it has less hair and needs less grooming, and it's very affectionate, great with family and kids.

Cons: a lot of mini breeders chase size and not health, temperament and function, so choose carefully. And expect some good old-fashioned bulldog snoring: the better the bulldog, the less of it.

Two pros and two cons of a mini English bulldog.

Two pros and two cons

Pro one: a mini is smaller than a standard bulldog, shorter and more compact, which means easier travel: smaller crates, smaller carriers, less weight to carry. A lot easier in cars and on planes.

Pro two: a smaller dog has less hair, so it's easier to groom, with less maintenance.

Con one is breeding ethics. A lot of mini English bulldog breeders focus only on size, not health, temperament and functionality like they should. Be very careful where you get a mini from.

Con two: the good old-fashioned bulldog snoring. The better the quality of bulldog, the less snoring you'll get, but you'll most likely still get some. Be prepared.

The short version

Pros: they're compact, so they suit all kinds of living spaces, and very affectionate, so they're great for family and kids. Cons? None. Just kidding: they can have common bulldog problems, which is why getting from a good breeder matters so much.
