What Is an English Bulldog's Temperament Like?
The short answer
A well-bred bulldog is naturally loving, sweet, super loyal and funny, usually really good with kids, friendly and outgoing. Overall, I think they're the best family companion dog. They're not barkers: if a bulldog barks, something's up.
Good with other dogs and cats? Yes, when two things are right: they come from a line bred for good, non-aggressive temperament, and they're raised around other dogs, cats and kids with good experiences from the start.
Loving, sweet, loyal and funny
Bulldogs are naturally loving, sweet, super loyal, funny dogs. Typically really good with kids, friendly and outgoing, and overall a great family and companion pet.
I say "typically" because that's a well-bred bulldog, from a program breeding for health, temperament, functionality and structure, and especially temperament. Get from a good program and you can expect that temperament. If you like those traits, a bulldog is the pet for you.

Are bulldogs good with other dogs and cats?
People ask us all the time: are bulldogs good with other pets, other dogs, cats, everything? The answer is yes, for two reasons.
One: they have to come from a good line with good temperament, not naturally aggressive. Two: the environment. Here we socialize them with other dogs, big dogs, small dogs, cats, everything, so they have good experiences with all of it and don't grow up with trauma or aggression toward other animals.
They also grow up confident, and a confident dog is a lot less likely to bite, act out or be aggressive. The most important time is from birth to eight weeks, before you even have your dog. That's when the most damage can be done, or the most good.

Do bulldogs bark?
Bulldogs very rarely bark. That's Fury yipping at the neighbor's cows for a second, and the rest of them are just chilling. If a bulldog barks, it's because something's up, not just to bark like some dogs do.
These are all unneutered males getting along: King Escobar, Fury, DaMilkMan, DaChamp. That's not by accident. It's years of breeding specifically for a naturally calm, non-aggressive temperament, quality over quantity. That's why they make such good pets.
