How to spot a bulldog scammer

Scammers copy real breeders' photos, videos and even their dogs' names. Here's how to check before you send a cent.

Print this guide

Check before you pay

  • Find the breeder's number yourself. Don't trust one somebody sends you.
  • Talk on the phone before you send money.
  • A bargain price on a top-quality puppy is the biggest red flag.
  • Walk away from anyone rushing you to pay.
  • Check the account against the breeder's own list. Mine is here, and my only number is (305) 393-2225.

If you think you've been scammed

  • Call the real breeder first to confirm it wasn't them.
  • Report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov and ic3.gov.
  • Call your bank or payment app right away.
