Episode 18 - English Bulldog Pregnancy, Complications, Puppy Care: A Guide for Beginners

Hi my name is Jason Soares and welcome to the best bowls ranch this is the DaMilkMan and today we're going to go over puppy health when you get a new puppy how to know they're healthy and how to make sure they stay safe on top of that we're going to go over our pregnant female nairobi and the last stages of pregnancy how to recognize the stages of when they're going into labor and when to do the C-section and then of course we're going to show you our facility some of the things we're doing and uh and why we're doing it and how it's going to help us and then sort of how it's going to help you because now I'm going to give you.

Some ideas on how you can make it better for your dogs whether you're doing it for a pet reason both reasons or whatever but just as long as you know it helps you with your dog hi my name is Jason Soares and welcome to the best bowls ranch.

When you're dealing with with um a new uh it's so important to monitor them like if we say you know uh um attention is everything paying attention to them because you're now with with a baby and a puppy they're very sensitive any little thing that goes wrong is is a very bad thing a common cold is very dangerous for babies and puppies um and so you need to monitor that and make sure you catch stuff as it's happening before it's happening you know one of the biggest things I always talk about and I've said this before with knowing how the puppy's feeling is how they're acting are they acting normal and maybe you have another puppy lungs you don't really know what normal is but.

Are they playing are they eating that is the biggest thing are they eating and drinking if they're not eating and drinking there's probably a problem okay dogs shut down eating drinking when they're not don't feel good or something's a problem so they're eating and drinking and they're playing and they be normal like this boy look at him he's I mean he's full look at his belly.

Full he is eating and drinking like crazy and he is playing he's trying to bite me right now and then is their poop good is there poop hard semi-hard is it crazy soft watery you know if it's crazy software they probably have a bacterial infection uh giardia coccidia something um like that and then you be treated or they have worms which again is a big problem they can eat away at them and they be treated so that's a big thing so the two biggest thing is is eating drinking and food I mean and um and their poop and then their attitude all three honestly have the same I can't really tell you which one's bigger now that I think about but he's doing amazing now.

The other thing to go over and I said I've said this a bunch is anything anything that can go wrong will go will go wrong and I think it's better to be pessimistic than optimistic in situations like this because I'd rather I want to think negatively like if I put them in this in this pen up on this you know edge and my german shepherd wick comes and jumps and hits the pen now knocks it over because he didn't like you know a little puppy pen and he falls four feet three feet to the ground that's gonna be bad so I try to think pessimist and not optimistically like oh wix not gonna do that you know I know I won't do that but so.

I try to think of worst case scenarios always with with the with the puppies and with with my baby my everything uh because I just want to make sure none of that bad stuff happens you know and I always try to think optimistically you know people are going to be good all those things but there's certain times that pests being pessimistic helps so I think negatively not negatively I just think in the worst case scenario because I don't want those scenarios to ever happen and I'm optimistic that I'm always going to make the right decision keep this thing this puppy safe so if there's one percent or a point one percent chance of something bad happening this this puppy a situation that I can think.

In my head fabricate in my head I need to account for that I need to change that you know so I need to make sure that that he can't get out you know like for example let's say he's in a pen in my house and my my dog is my um other big dog is dog a puppy aggressive let's say it's not the case but let's say and he's loose so now I don't want to just have one stage at me if that cage opens the cage gets opened and he gets out now that dog's gonna gonna bite him and kill him I want to have that pen have multiple stages for example that other dog be put in the area where it can't get.

That that pen that pen have two stages to unlock that pen have another spot where the dog can't get out even does get out so I have three four multiple stages three or four levels five levels until the bad thing happens so now the chances that are point zero zero zero one percent you know there's always stop every anomaly but if I can put multiple stages on safety I'm going to and it's going to make my puppy a lot safer and I know you're like thinking well it's probably that's probably not gonna happen well I don't I just don't I'm just not gonna be okay with that's probably not going to happen you know I have to know in my head that I did everything.

To make sure that happened you know a meteor can come in and go through my my ceiling and hit him and I'm that's a point zero zero zero zero one percent so I'm I'm I'm willing to take that risk I don't have the money to put you know three feet of steel on my roof and stuff like that so we have to take that risk.

So this is the DaMilkMan yeah that's not why he picked up right now he is our new stud Escobar sun he's awesome if you haven't been following us on all the other platforms now you're seeing them he's eight weeks old today future stud and I absolutely love him love him for so many reasons I'll explain but the DaMilkMan d.a DaMilkMan you're going to hear a lot about him in in the coming months and in the future coming years for sure yeah so picking a a stud is so hard but I obviously know his exact lines I mean he's like like I said like 10 times the best bulls uh lines and he's just the cutest thing I love him I love the personalities from.

I like the I love the health that his lines are from and I love the structure lines are from so it's just a no-brainer to me to use him and uh I love his back structure it's really short uh I love his stance I love his bone and love his head so there's so many factors that go into picking up the right stud like obviously health structure temperament and he checks all those boxes for me and then pedigree huge.

It was a no-brainer for me to keep him and I'm also I like a lot of people like say oh like you know he's not blue he's not lilac he's not bro like I don't care like you know I don't care if a dog is is fun I'm gonna get a fun stud soon I just care about what I told you which is structure health and temperament the rest is bonus you know the arrest is bonus and uh and even color wise I love his color he's a he's a freaking white pie absolutely gorgeous and um I can't wait to wait for him and on top of that I'm just following all my rules and you know I'm extra cautious with my with puppy with.

My all my dogs all the things I love I'm extra cautious and like I said I always like to try to pessimistically you know I'm optimistic all my dogs are gonna be healthy and be good and stay healthy and but and stuff like that but I think pessimist I think pessimistically on in the problem areas that something could happen bad if I don't if I don't take account for it which I which I do and I if and you need in my opinion you do that with all the things you love g because you don't want those bad things to happen because you were like it probably won't right DaMilkMan let's get some picks I need some picks a lot of people don't understand.

Too all my picks yeah like all my picks are uh iphone zero adding and I love doing um videos and the reason I love doing videos the videos are so much harder to cheat like a lot of people like not to say a lot of people but a lot not a lot of people do take pictures and then and then have them edit so they look differently the dog looks differently and that's not right you know so that's why I'm so keen on doing lots of videos because you get what you see you know he's biting me hard good god but yeah but um.

But uh I just sit at home and then come out here and we just get DaMilkMan and I get pictures of them like this I just pick them up take a picture take a picture and that's what you see on on the gram that's what you see on tick tock and I and I love being so transparent that I just show everything so people know when they're dealing me like what you see is what you get you know and you get to see all all the good aspects and I also show bad stuff too you know like of dogs and stuff like that not bad stuff like but like they're angles that aren't their best angles they don't care they you know there's.

No such thing as a perfect dog no such thing as a perfect person and we can only just try to do the best we can do and you know there's angles that DaMilkMan doesn't look the best but overall he's an amazing looking looking English bulldog.

So now the last stages of dealing with a pregnant female are extremely important obviously you know it's the last stages uh you're almost there at the same time it's probably one of most the dangerous stages of it and it requires extreme monitoring so the first thing is take when you're dealing with English bulldog puppies like I've said before gestation period is 58 to 63 days and that's the window where you want to have the puppies any earlier it's catastrophic even a day or two because it's the last stages when their lungs develop and everything and then later is catastrophic they can get wire logged all kinds of bad things can happen they can die in there kill your female killer lots of bad things that.

Happen I'm not trying to scare you but so you want to take in that fifth day 58 to 63 window and normally you want to take on the ladder end of that window towards the day 60 61 60 62 window because that's going to be the safest they're gonna be more developed and it's going be to safer for the puppies come out day 58 is still dangerous but sometimes they're going to go into labor then because they have a huge litter and it's a lot of pressure and then you have to take them out anyway so but I like to date I liked it if I had a preference I'm taking out day 61. Now the huge obstacle with those days is actually knowing exactly.

When she ovulated because if you don't know the update of ovulation you don't know the date the term the gestation period and now you're guessing in that window and if you take out a day 58 but you were really two days early in the safe 56 but you thought it day was 58 now again it's catastrophic so it's so important to do progesterone tests when you're going into doing the breeding so you not not only until you know like you know when to do the inseminations but so you now know exactly when she ovulated and we go off a date of ovulation you do not go off of date of insemination you go off date of ovulation and like there's like lots of things.

Where like you have a preference on how to keep your dog in this kind of pen and you know how to probably train your dog and there's lots of good ways of doing those things and there's there's like five ten ways that are good but when we're talking about what I'm telling you right now data population gestation period all this stuff there's no oh my buddy likes to do it at day 56 or whatever there's no there's a hundred percent a right way and a wrong way and there's only one way to do this because we're talking pure facts and pure science so gestation period starts at date of ovulation not date of insemination okay so when I know that they're ovulated based on the.

Progesterone readings the numbers I can't tell you the exact numbers but it depends on what machine you're using but ask your vet or ask that person that the vet tech that's that that knows they're talking about about that machine as far as if it's a vtec if it's a idex if it's a fine care all those things it's going to dictate what number means ovulation but this is all science and you're going to go off date of ovulation you're going to count from then and me I personally like to take it take a day 61 I recommend you doing whatever your vet recommends or the special recommends as far as that little window goes but you want to take in that window 100 fact and.

To go on another subject going off I would like to take a recommendation of your vet and all that stuff make sure like I always say when you're dealing with bulldogs and you're going to do a C-section which is should happen 99 times what you should do this is just they usually can't push them out lots of complications and there's times where it happens but I'm just telling you statistically speaking you want to do the C-section make sure you go with a vet that's experienced that's extremely important it's the same thing like I'm not just gonna get some regular doctor to do heart surgery on me because they're not a heart specialist you know I want to find a bulldog specialist and a um.

A breeding specialist in the dog world that deals with bulldogs those will see sections all that because that's how I'm gonna get the best care for my dog and I'm gonna get the best information because they specialize in that so it's so important to do that now once you know data ovulation and you know that the gestation period now the last week so right now for example the reason I'm talking about this is we're going monitor to nairobi and nairobi is that day today's tuesday it's a day 57 today um based on her her um her uh her ovulation on the professional test that I did so we know her dates she's very close it's extremely important to monitor the female and there's a.

Bunch of signs that will will start to show when they're starting to go into labor and you don't want take to one of them into account and make it like make your decision off one but you want to take all of them so signs that your female is getting close to labor going to labor um and you need to watch out for it one their temperature do the temperature get a temperature thermometer and do it through the butt and the temperature is going to dictate you know when that temperature drops two or three degrees uh normally they're about 24 hours away from from going to labor or starting the process and so you need to know you have your to they need a C-section um.

And it's important to get a base temperature because based on your female based on your your thermometer sometimes like you'll see a 99.8 or or it might show 102 and so the thermometer might be a little off or or the female might be irregular as far as high and low but you want to get a base one at least a week before so you know her regular temperature so my female's at 101.2 and now I see it dropped to 98 I know that she's about to drop puppies down so that temperature will always drop not always again that's why it's one thing but normally drop about 24 hours before they they're going to go into labor number two is the eating normally again the.

Female will stop eating 24 to 48 hours before they go in labor not always but kind of female go in labor and eat six hours before but the eating is very important so I always make sure I feed my female and I watch or eat number three the nesting is your female going to like places where like she's trying to dig a hole and get like a wet like away and build a little nest for the puppies that she knows is coming so they will start to nest before they go into labor as well too so that's another big detail and number four which I personally like probably the best it's between one and number four the temperature and number four number four is the.

Progesterone test it's called reverse protest their own test all you're going to do is progesterone tester and based on the levels of the progesterone their levels will start to drop and once they get to a certain level you know that they're and depending on the level they're 12 24 40 hours off you know on an idex machine most vets recommend four or below meaning to take the puppies to a C-section so when you start to see those low numbers that's when you're going to do the C-section now and it depends if you're talking about idex a fine care mini videos so it all depends on that that's why I recommend finding a specialist vet that understands their machine and understands when they like to do.

Their things but just you it's good for you to know where where you're at too as well so you can say hey this vet doesn't know what they're doing or this person doesn't know they're doing it I got I gotta find someone else I gotta get a second opinion you know and I'm going off of multiple vet recommendations and doing this for years and years and years so I have a pretty good understanding and obviously you know track record speaks for itself but the ovulation test the progesterone test is extremely uh carries a lot of weight and number five is I'm seeing if I'm seeing them in distress I'm seeing their their their stuff and their their stomach start to contract which is obviously they're.

In labor I'm seeing panting I'm seeing I'm seeing some some some you know nervous slash heightened behaviors which now says that she's pretty much in labor or going into labor I'm always taking into account of those five those five things and that being said I'm monitoring because I don't want them to go into labor I mean not be there and the puppy gets stuck and all those things happen and then I want to be able to make sure I control everything I do the C-section properly and everything goes smooth so it's very important and that's why like you have to love what you're doing when you're dealing with the bulldogs and you're dealing with dogs it is it's so high stress you have to.

Be able to wake up at 2 am just go check on her you know like tonight I'm waking up at 3am I'll go to sleep probably 2 a.m I wake up at like 4 a.m just to check on her if I if I when I went to sleep she was acting a little weird you know so the number one thing like I always say I always talk about is attention monitoring that dog attention attention attention like if you don't have the ability to give the dogs attention you shouldn't have the dogs and you shouldn't be breeding if you're going to do the breeding you know so I have the ability to give her attention so I'm going to give her attention I'm going to watch.

Her I'm gonna be diligent on everything all those little steps I'm gonna be looking in case you're doing one she's doing two three four four or five she's doing all those steps you know no okay we're good not sure obviously take my advice but also cross-reference my advice with other people that you that you trust cross reference my advice with vets cross reference all that stuff to come up with your own with your own conclusion as well too because just because a vet tells you something doesn't mean it's right you know just because I tell you something doesn't mean you're right and vice versa so that being said let's go let's go see nairobi talk a little bit more about her we're not going.

To stay long we're going to show just a clip little of her because she is pregnant I don't that's another thing too when you're dealing oh we'll go that's a good thing when you're with um the females especially when they're pregnant you don't want to to stress them out at all so you know cowboys here he's recording it's a new person dogs are gonna bark something like that so I just want to keep her calm keep her heart rate down and uh and don't want to stretch out just like you do with a with a pregnant person you know on top of that a lot of people ask me what I do with my um with my pregnant females what I feed them you know what.

Supplements I give them I don't do anything different this is my my my mentality on it I don't do anything different when the female's pregnant because my my thought process and that I want them to be as healthy as possible before I want to be as healthy as possible during so I should have been keeping them healthy before the as well as during so they don't really need much more I know some people do folic acid and do some other stuff but I already get my dogs you know two different vitamins and super high quality food fresh eggs good exercise water sunlight all that stuff so and I have a good track record with this and I don't see any any problems so I don't.

Think I need to do anything maybe I could add a little game something to it but my females do awesome every time so I just stick with keep my female healthy to begin with so I'm gonna get pull nairobi out we got a little bit of work going in there she's used to aaron who's the who's the um our worker but I'm going to show her to show you her show you how big she is she's crazy big so give me one second let me go grab her so as you can see she's huge tiny little girl nice little bows her elbows are sticking out more but she's under so.

Um but she's I mean I love her she's so nice I know we said about all our dogs but she's just the sweetest probably the sweetest female period and uh she's huge pro I don't know how many puppies comment down below how many puppies you think my guess is seven puppies but she's huge I mean like look over top.

I took her out because I didn't want the dogs a barking cowboy and sister out but she's just yeah she's she's feeling it you know and let me see I'm not gonna mess with her too much she's she's a calm dog so I can do this but I really like you know high anxiety dog I would never even take out to show anyone right now but she's big and um and she's she's gonna pop a soon hopefully we get she waits a couple more days the puppies get a little more time to cook getting a little healthy and stuff like that but she's um doing great too she's she's my good girl right nairobi let's go inside baby see how big she is and I.

Don't even the video does her any credit for how big she really looks like how much she looks big right he's he's saying she's huge another thing you're taking account too is some another reason why we you do c-sections with with the English bulldog says one even if everything goes right the bulldogs are very big headed and very big chested and it's very hard for them to pass so lots of times they'll get stuck and now you have huge problems puppies dying females dying all the puppies are dying uh and then on top on top of that lots of times they won't even go in labor if they have a small litter they won't go they that's them they won't go in labor if they.

Have a big layer though like seven eight six five six and up sometimes they get really full and they'll go into labor even sooner like around 58 59 days because it's just that's what happens on the bigger layers is that they come out a little bit early because there's a lot of pressure and their body wants to release it but on the on the smaller layers like a two three one puppy they will take even longer and somebody's not going to labor and then 100 you need a C-section because the puppies are even bigger because you have two puppies in there getting huge shaking up the room when you have six puppies you have a bunch of little puppies they don't have as much space.

To grow so that's another thing to take an account to but there's so much to this and obviously I'm not giving you all the information I'm trying to and that's why you know we're doing the DaBestBulls Ranch episodes and doing the show and trying to help you but you're gonna have to you're gonna have to watch more of me because I'm gonna be telling more information as we go and I know that I can't give out everything in one episode since you know talking about hours and hours and hours but I appreciate you make sure you leave comments down below give me a comment down below give us follow on here of course make sure you subscribe click the bell follow us on all.

Help everyone keep on saying it and it's all it's we've come a long way and the place is a mess right now like you know we got freaking saws and everything everywhere they got construction equipment and all that stuff but I'm thinking I'm praying in about a month two months time it's gonna really start to come together and when you're doing everything right like and doing everything like the step by step like and doing all the not skipping steps it takes a lot longer and there's a lot of things that you probably never even really see the naked eyes gonna see like the drainage like the holes right there that was a week long of drainage stuff but it pays difference in the end.

In the end it really like shows a big picture so like for example we are doing the lights and all that stuff you know and getting the wiring done and now we were doing I'll show you um that we today that we got this pressure wash so tomorrow this gets painted and you can look down here and we were going to put um all the pens out here and stuff like that we did these things right here like a lot of times people don't really understand how much time and effort it takes to do especially custom stuff like these are aluminum framed out from the outside the the doggy doors and then we have the the metal ones on the inside with the hinges here.

We still got to put the put the the um the rubber you know flaps in here but all this stuff takes so much time you know on top of that if they're with bulldogs if there's a way for them to be to chew on something especially if they're if they're a bored little they will so that being said so I have to now take care of this little angle right here this cut the sharp edge you know we could leave it right whatever but one it could cut my dog's mouth and cut their their cheeks if they try to bite it two if they try to bite it they're gonna rip this apart they're gonna eventually rip the building apart they're gonna open up the wall.

And then the wall is going to get water in and then the building's gonna start to rot from the inside out you really have to take care of every single angle like this is mill did you own that nothing happens did you on that scratching but I want to make sure they can't structurally hurt the stuff so we are going to put a flap here and then concrete step right here and it's gonna make it so they don't have an angle and we're probably gonna have to do something this edge right here but this edge might get chewed on as well too so I'm gonna have to put some kind of wall here but we're gonna see how it goes and that's that's the um.

The beauty of doing everything custom is that it's just you're you're trying you're trying to you're trying to accommodate and plan for every single situation with the dogs and um and that's why I'm showing all this stuff too because I'm pretty experienced on on this on this and I know a lot about it I see all the situations need to happen and I'm sharing this one because to help you and two maybe you help me if you see something give me a comment and maybe it's good you know I take into account I take all advice into account but there's so much thought that goes into every single product thing that that you have to think ahead of for because if you don't.

Think head for it now when the situation does happen it's a big problem to fix and moving complications this is crazy so my the people that did my concrete stuff they don't work for me more they did not do a good job up to my standards and every time we're checking something there's little things wrong so for example the wall you can't really see it but anyway one of the walls in there has a big gap in it that that holds the drainage system you can look right here that concrete wall that runs on the side of the drain sits down in there has holes in the side of it that now need to be that we couldn't see until we started messing with it.

So now we have to fix that whole thing so they're good to pack it like we have to go fix stuff that should have been done right in the first place but that's the name of the game but yeah so this is being done we have the concrete steps that will be going there and.

Oh this is a new look at concrete this step is new check this out brand new step brand new door step up there's a step on the inside too as well step down we have oh didn't show you so these are the fans I like showing you stuff so you can see as it comes these are the fans that are these high-powered fans are oscillating fans we have three of them and they're gonna go inside these have they're just messing with it they're gonna go inside on the 45 degree wall and they're going to be spaced evenly on the top so they can blow air down into the kennels into the stalls and make sure there's good circulation in the stalls because one of the.

Downsides of doing concrete and solid walls is that there's not any circulation not as much circulation so to make sure my dogs are getting some good circulation and getting fresh air we're blowing the air down and just continuously circulating the air on top of we have some air cleaners coming as well too so make sure the air is super good some hospital grade air cleaners but.

That's pretty much where we're at with the with the build out I'm trying to think if we had any other new stuff go on and then by next the next episode I've said this a couple times making a liar on me the next and it's just me being optimistic but there's just there's always so much that goes into everything like just to do this was this is a whole week getting the frames done get them cut out uh then we bust that water line but to fix that you know so there's always it's always a lot more complicated than you think and there's a lot more steps just to doing something that looks simple you know just like to putting up a wall or putting.

Up concrete or doing that there's just so many more steps you know like this this is custom has to be cut out heavy framed and had to be sealed in with our ceiling and then just there's so much to it and even though that's a simple one you know but this is looking great pressure wash floor we're painting it with this with this white um it's called same way as the building I like the color white but it's a white pool paint so it's going to seal the concrete and then we're putting some sand into that the paint um so it's gonna make it so it's not slippery because this is like a pool paint it is a full paint so what so there's no.

Water it can go into the concrete and the water has to flow and all and all the fluids all the waste anything has to flow down this way and can't be absorbed by the concrete and I've never said this before but with dogs you don't want them to be on concrete raw concrete because the pee is going to go into the concrete be absorbed the poop is going to be absorbed which is going build to bacteria and you're gonna have a whole colony of bacteria living under your dog which is going to make breed diseases breed problems for your dog so this is going to be sealed so we can completely make completely make this area sanitary and you know zero bacteria so you.

Know we can use the wysiwash which is going to kill all that stuff so we're going to make that smooth but you don't want it too smooth so the dogs are sliding out you want to have grip so we have that going on and that should be done shortly so these are now done they're all smooth and we're most likely going to have to redo some of the stalls that we did arabia this is like the 2.0 stall where floors raised concrete floor drainage slanted down with holes look at the the edges you never want a right angle which I discovered because a right angle just the first of all the dog is unusable space and second off it's just gonna like stuff seeing it.

Kicked in those corners so you can't see these are all super rounded even the corners right like this here rounded so nothing gets stuck in there it's very easy to rinse this out wash it out and make sure nothing this place stays perfectly clean so stars are clean now they gotta get epoxy and painted but uh I'm really happy with.

One last thing my mom just got here mom come here mom so this is this is my mom leah okay and for those of guys you don't know I'm the owner of the DaBestBulls Ranch I always say that because I am but she's also the other owner of it right mom she says I call her silent partner because one she wasn't living close but now we have a new facility where she just bought a new house down the road and um and two it's just she was always not there and I always say I'm the only one because I never liked the I can't say that there's multiple owners because then the scammers that try to say that you know I'm the other.
