Episode 3 - Hygiene, Bathing, Ear Cleaning, Nail Cutting, and More…

Hey my name is Jason Soares owner of the best bulls in the DaBestBulls Ranch so today we're going to be going over the the upkeep as far as the the hygiene the cleaning of the dogs the bathing the nail clipping the ear cleaning bulldogs are known for being a pretty high maintenance dog and to be honest with you I agree and disagree with that they're not nearly as high maintenance as people say that's going to be dictated by the quality of the English bulldog you get um depending on on what what program you get from because for example bulldogs have been bred so poorly for such a long time from the wrong program you're gonna have a dog that is crazy high man that.

Has hip problems that has breathing problems that has all these things now that that being said no matter what when you get an English bulldog you have to know that they are a predisposed breed to a certain amount of problems and you're trying to minimize that by obviously getting from a really good program after all that's said then there is the upkeep of a dog just like any dog you have to clean it you have to you know cut the nails depending on on the activity level of dog you have to maintain the ears and all these little things are gonna one make your dog healthier and happier and better two gonna make it so now you have less vet visits less bills less all.

Those things just by maintaining a dog just like just like with a car you know you have to do your regular maintenance if you don't you're gonna have way bigger problems in the future so we're going to bathe the dogs now I just use a basic this is like a dog shampoo it's a soothing hemp oil lavender I'm not too too specific on dog shampoos I just like a semi natural.

Easy on the skin one because dogs the bulldogs are very um skin sensitive um typically and some are more some are less I'm gonna get them all wet and then I'm gonna shampoo them and then I'm gonna clean them off and then some of them like water some don't you can see that kimura loves water Fury doesn't uh kilo somehow does this is rari right here she loves water Escobar right here the king.

He he likes water but a lot of times the dogs don't like the hose because of the the sound and the pressure and stuff Fury is a little he's scared of he's gonna be good for him look at look at president he's attacking the wire kilo come here come that's another reason why I like the real skin sensitive shampoo is I like to get them all wet and then I'll put the shampoo on them and let it soak in let it clean them everything and then I'll rinse them off and some dogs like more wire more than others like he likes water that's buckler that's where come I we're gonna clean Escobar first okay so.

That's working here you don't wanna listen that's where come on xbar come on asmr come here that's bar come on essie come here come on boy you don't want to come typically the bulldogs they love water and if you give them like little pools like they go on that thing or the little pools they'll go in that but that's why being right now he's smarter than those but um the hoses they they last time don't like so with the water I mean with the shampoo let me get in the shade I'm just put some on my hand let's rub it in.

Something that um a lot of people don't ever ask when this is gonna help a lot of people actually when they get a bulldog and they don't they don't ever think about but it's a huge problem and if you've ever had if you had bullets for a long time like I've had my bulldogs my whole life is the tail pocket so he doesn't have a tail pocket but if he did have a tail pocket and those you guys that know you really know it's a huge problem because what it does is it traps bacteria it's over here.

It can it can be it can be it can be a like a honestly life threatening if it gets not bad enough so when you're getting a bulldog you want make to sure that the parents don't have tail pockets and uh you it's something you should ask now with bulldogs legs I just take their and I just I'm here you want to make sure you get other at the same time I don't like get to I don't like to get shampoo in there and on their eyes and stuff so with the rolls I do it with um a rag.

Or like baby wipes and stuff but this is just I like to clean inside their paws and make sure it gets clean and also doing that too it's very important to touch your dog because if you're not touching a dog they might have something in their foot like a like a thorn or something you don't know about because they can't tell you and now it's a problem you'll have to get every part of them.

And now I'm gonna I'm gonna get escort out here he's not liking it so I'm gonna actually rinse them off first but the rest of them I'll let the shampoo soak in so that's all I do and if you have a table or uh the big the big bathing station it makes it a lot easier obviously in building mode so we don't have all the stuff yet but we will shortly now escort nice and clean I rub them as we do this this is gonna one get the soap out to get all this loose fur out I clean all those little crevices.

Hey boy you're my pretty boy I love you you can towel dry um blow dry or um in my case out here I'm gonna let him shake loose and walk around he'll get dry in the sun that's the benefit of having this big area guys grab them they have so much extra extra skin I don't buy them I keep them keep them on me.

You see all the hair coming off them he's going to feel so much better after this I clean and grow apart it's important to tell him good boy so he doesn't think getting clean is the bad thing ask your gun yes you come that's where go inside.

So obviously every week is a is a crazy managing week of dealing with bulldogs dealing with workers dealing with everything um but we are now accomplished building out the pad in the back or getting that getting that um laid the concrete laid and then building our our cinder block wall there we have the concrete obviously laid uh we put we have the footers put in we have everything done obviously by professionals um it's gonna it's at a two inch slant so it's it's two inches higher over there than is down here which can allow all all the pe all the all the poop everything to slide down whether naturally or by by with the spray with the hose or with the jets um look at.

This is kilo right here he's just hanging out he's gonna be in here hey diva diva come diva come on baby come on guys guys come come on let's go steve come people come diva loves the camera she's she's still a puppy she's like a year old well you're not almost a year and a half but she's funny but if you see right here you see the wire is actually even going down already ac three and a half ton ac which is overkill for the for the square footage we have but on top of that we're doing two ac's totally overkill but just for safety reasons me having peace of mind or doing that um this hole right here was where the ac is we.

Moved it we're gonna fill it and then we're gonna put ac back and we have the other ac coming next week so that's really cool and that's going to make me sleep a lot better at night even though we have like the temperature gauges inside that are hooked up to my phone we have all those things um just the safety first for the dogs you know there's like one being lazy and or being cheap and not putting another ac in there could lead to a catastrophic thing happening so we don't want that now the walls 42-inch cinder block walls they're not finished they have to be poured with the walls are going to be so basically if you can imagine this is going to be.

My walkway right here and then the kennels are and their and their their pens are going to be right here with their doors and everything they're going to have access to their inside pens for the doggy door so that's gonna be really nice and then it's gonna be hard to imagine but right here is getting cut out and we're putting in the slide drain so it's actually gonna be higher up there and all come down here and from that side all come down there and then it's running down into a 500 gallon sewage tank so it's going to make it extremely easy to keep the dogs clean and make this area stay clean so that's that's the biggest thing I'm super excited about we're.

Still not sure if we're going to put jets in there to help the uh the fluid go down but um that'll be that'll be next now on top of all that the concrete's finished nicely to make it so everything goes smooth and then we're also going to seal the concrete because believe it or not concrete's porous and it will absorb pee and poop and absorb the smell absorb bacteria and we don't want that so we're going to seal it that's next as well if you see over here.

We have the the pvc piping come on guys let's see let's show them the pvc piping kilo come diva come this pvc piping is gonna be the mold for the uh the slide drain it's gonna be cut in half and then placed down in the concrete and when they cut out that concrete there they're going to put it down in and that's going to be the mold we're not sure if it's going to be the mold and we're going to pull the con the pvc out or we're going to leave the pvc in this is a learning process for for me for my builders this is like a rare thing every like these these contractors not every day that they're they're building a a two.

Or three hundred thousand dollar dog facility so it's definitely new but we're trying uh the best we can and then on top of that if something doesn't work out I'm making them redo it so it's a lot of money but I want the dogs to be set good and I want everything to run smooth and the facility to be nice.

With the ears it's something that I would recommend doing like once a month once every other month and of course if you ever saw your dog rubbing their ear or shaking shaking their head abnormally a lot then you need to get their ears cleaned and or take them to the vet because there's something matter there is uh so this is the ear the ear rinse I use you can get on amazon it's um ot rinse it's an ear cleansing slash drying solution so you squirt it in their ear you rub it breaks up and cleans the ear and then it self dries and they shake their ear out too Escobar he he doesn't know he's gonna hear anything but he doesn't really mind this with.

Bulldogs the the breed standard is they should have a pretty rosy ear now if you look at Escobar look at his ear look at his ear see how it comes back that's that's a breed standard and that's good because one it's it's pulled back.

And it opens up their ear so it doesn't have like uh it allows airflow and doesn't build up the kind of humidity in there that is uh will will cause ear infections and problems and with the droopy ear dogs you actually see that a like bass and hounds and stuff crazy about your ear problems because there's no ear there's no airflow in there it causes the humidity and a big problem.

Actually a fun fact is there's actually a single wild animal that has their ears covered over like their ears down there's not one you think I ever about every wild animal foxes wolves uh pigs any any any wild animal I'd like you guys if you can think of one let me know the only animal that has a droopy ear that that's wild is a um it's an elephant but it's not a droopy ear it's down but it's just like ours same kind of thing where it's open there's no animal wild animal that has this ear over and so it's a it's a problem that we've we've developed um through domesticating dogs um and causing that drippy ear and that causes ear infection so one if.

You do have a bulldog that has the non-breed standard ears where it's basset houndish you're gonna have this problem and I recommend doing this ear rinse once a month if not every other month but if they have the droopy ears once a month two I recommend if they have any problems Escobar um doesn't but we still do it so what we're gonna do is we're going to take this open this up square okay we're going to stick this in the air not not super hard or far and we're going to I'm going to stand over I like to stand over like this so I pinch on my legs I'm going to squirt in there okay I'm going to fill up the ear and then I'm.

Going to grab right at the base and then rub it you can you can hear it in there and it actually feels really good for him so it's clean ears so then I'm in I don't want to shake I'm gonna hold him because if I don't hold him he'll shake and then I'm gonna pour in the other one.

And you gotta rub it and then I can rub both and he likes it it feels really good and I'm gonna do it I usually do it two times especially like if it's just upkeeps he has some stuff in here you take a cotton ball to clean out but his ears are actually relatively clean and I'm gonna rub again.

It's very important that you hold the head because if you're standing over him like this and you don't hold the head it'll shake his head and you'll get ear juice all in your face um trust me I know so then I'll do the other one one more time stick it in there squirt and I squirt in there pretty good and I'll rub and he likes it so now.

This is really good upkeep and now I'm gonna back away really quick and then shake his head and he'll shake his head a couple times now I've done this I do this as upkeep just to make sure there's no ear infection and they don't get any affection and on top of that um I've done it before when I see a dog starting to rub their ear or shake their head I notice that those are common signs the dog has something in their ear or a slight ear infection or something and I'll do this and this works and it clears up now if the dog continues to rub their head shake their their head a lot then you might need a vet treatment go the to.

Vet and they might give you some antibiotic cream and stuff to put in there but this is a very very good maintenance and preventative kind of thing to stop that from happening because one if you get an ear infection it can be very bad to a dog deadly and two is very costly going to the vet and stuff so I'd like to do this like I said I do every every month every other month just depending on the dog if you do have a dog that has the droopy ears an English bulldog that has the droopy ears um the basset hound style ears I really am not a fan of that but if you do have one that's like that it's very important do to.

This at least every month I get this these are nail clippers I use there's some dremel tools uh that are probably a little bit better for beginners because you less room for error um these ones so if you do get up the cue the the the cuticles or whatever they're called too much you will cause them to bleed now depending on on your dog's activity level depending on the surface they they they go on will will will dictate how often need you to cut their nails now Fury he runs around a lot he's a very active dog so I haven't cut his nails in like like very rarely you see how his nails are great I would not cut them there's only a tiny bit.

Of white there if you would cut that it would probably bleed and if you cut even a little bit more you would bleed now if you do cut too much and the dog starts leaning they actually will bleed a lot um and don't get nervous just you just take cinnamon and you just take it put on a cloth or wet cloth and you damp it on there and you put sim on the end where it's bleeding and it'll actually stop it now the only part I'm going to cut on on Fury are his do claw area where that ca can get long as it doesn't get worn and if it gets caught it can cause it can hurt him so here we stop so I'm.

Just gonna come and cut right uh right where like the the tip is you know I'll show you the other one uh there's a point and I only cut the point because if you cut past that point like past there you cut into the red or the pink area and he'll bleed and I just cut this so it doesn't get too long so it doesn't get caught on anything right where the tip is that's all and now it's good and he doesn't need much upkeep in his nails because like I said he's such an athletic dog and anna and a um and on top of that he just he gets a lot of exercise he has a huge area to run in he has.

Concrete to run on and that wears down the nails naturally which is the best thing you know and honestly to be to be honest the only time I really see dogs that need their their nails cut a lot or dogs that are kept in a crate um.

A lot and that's and that shouldn't be the case you know these dogs shouldn't be kept the crate he's still shedding we just gave him the bath but um that's all Fury just needs his new claws cut because if that gets long gets caught and something can hurt him and that's all that's all with him some dogs like I said in on top of if they're not just kept in the cage uh if they are only on very soft um forgiving floor they will their nails will not get worn down and then they will um they'll need a cut so but he runs outside grass rock concrete everything and he's get his get worn down right boy so he doesn't really need much just to.

Do claws don't get warm now this is rari rory is actually Escobar's direct sister she's gorgeous super nice rope big head for a female she's a blue tri this is called blue the color the try is this these accent points and she carries chocolate so she's a blue tri-triple carrier she's she's super attached to me I can never get rid of her even after she's retired she loves me she she literally every time she's out she will not leave my side she's a super good dog amazing temperament non non-aggressive.

Crazy functional a lot more athletic than you think actually she's actually one of the most athletic dogs but um yeah rory is a staple in the best bulls family and we love her so this is diva right here diva is actually an Escobar daughter uh bred to one of our tiny micro females um from a while ago she's a almost a year and a half she's amazing I love love her structure like I'm sorry she has a very short back very straight back no no no high back ends um a nice face for a female um she's she's still not done growing so her head's actually a little bigger her bones need a little bigger but structurally I just love how compact she is and.

She's the sweetest dog just like Escobar same same attitude very sweet non-aggressive and we're actually going to breed her back to Escobar it's called lime breeding um done done correctly lime breeding is extremely acceptable I know some people think it's weird for your daughter to to father but it's a very common practice in in dog breeding and horse breeding and anything and um that's how we're gonna we're gonna build that structure and keep that structure at the same time both healthy both great attitudes both just great um great examples for English bulldog breed so that's that's another reason why we're gonna line breathing as well and she's just she's amazing super right diva.

We actually have um one puppy right here we gotta clean everything up it's off it's actually an Escobar sister um direct Escobar sister from Escobar's and that's about his dad that's where his dad's sancho out of sally's bulldogs and uh so we paid for that stud feat and we did a rebreath of course because we got a great we got esquire and Fury off it and rory they're all from the same layer missy stop I'll show you missy in a second this is a puppy she is gorgeous you can't really really tell probably but she's so cute she is she's eight days old she was born wednesday and she's just a single puppy um it wasn't the best reading because uh we did a.

Shift sample and missing just her levels weren't ready and uh just didn't go perfect but we got one puppy of it which is really good we're super happy about that and now we're gonna put her put her on to get fed and nurse because we have to do that every every um three to four hours I'm gonna lay her down just to make sure nothing happens to the puppy I'm gonna put her.

On the edge of the heating pad so she doesn't get over heated but the puppy heated and then I'm gonna get the puppy and this puppy is really good at latching so I don't even need to help this puppy but but yeah we gotta find a name for her so we have a good name drop in the comments below.
