Episode 6 - Full Dog Nutrition from Puppy to Adult,and Mini Bulldogs Explained

And today we're going to be going over the full nutrition so I know I've talked about nutrition before I don't feel I'm not happy with with everything I've covered I've it's been blotchy so in this episode I want to go from a to z nutrition meaning puppy first coming out how to feed it how to take care of it supplementing it our formulas until when it's two weeks old four weeks old when we're getting on mush when we're getting it ready to start eating adult food and then when we're talking about the adults feeding them and what I do there so I'm gonna go over my process of feeding dogs from a to z in one episode so you guys can see everything and you.

Can you can you just mix it so you'll have to look around you have everything right there at your fingertips also in this episode we're gonna be going over English bulldog sizes we're gonna go over the difference between a standard bulldog a mini bulldog a micro bulldog we're also going to be talking about our divestables ranch facility build out talking about the drainage we're putting in the back pens the back overhang so make sure you stay tuned.

Hi my name is Jason Soares and welcome to the best bulls this is sushi our new micro girl that we produced on Escobar and sushi we call her sushi 2.0 so there's three main parts when feeding dogs in my opinion there's newborn the middle stage where we're giving them mush transitioning them to the adult stage in an adult stage so three main stages obviously little stages in between um newborn you want my mom's milk okay um you want them getting the mom's colostrum you want them taking you with a drinking mom's book that's number one um something I recommend on newborns is to get plasma if your vet does plasma injections when they first born do that um it's a little tip I like to.

Do it it gives them you know energy right away and it's very very good for their immunities but milk first from the mom if they're not getting enough you notice they're getting a little lethargic they're weak whatever or their mom's not producing enough milk then we have the supplement feed them and we feed them straight milk I use goat's milk as black that's why I use this exact thing goat milk s black for a puppy um that's what I use it's a two to one it's a two to one ratio so for every cup of powder you need two cups of um of water we use you know bottled filtered water and um make sure if you're going to be over on one that you're.

Over on the water not over on the on the powder because when you're younger it's it'll be too potent it's very bad for them now supplement feeding is tricky now if you don't have the mom if the puppy's not eating enough you have to be very careful supplement finger feeding I'm going to show my fingertip method of supplementing that I love it's very very safe and it's the best one especially even for beginners to advanced people um for uh supplement feeding the puppies the fingertip method let me show you okay so the fingertip method um I don't like the bottle method just to give a bottle because if you put too of a hole.

Uh or too small of a hole too big they aspirate and they suck too much you small hole they don't get enough it's very hard and it's very hard to suck um and then tube feeding is very dangerous you have to be a ver like and I don't recommend it um and then it just you have to be a professional I don't even do it my mom's one that does it if we had the tube feed a dog and then the fingertip method is the best thing for advanced and beginners in my opinion basically you're going to put some of the milk on your on your finger and you're going to put it in the puppy's mouth the reason I do that is that puppy.

Will like smell the milk and taste the milk oh it's good so they'll put they'll suck on your finger just like it's a nipple and then you're gonna take your syringe that your your milk in it it's warm okay and you're gonna put it against your finger this is inside the mouth and I'm gonna slowly go okay the younger the puppy is slower you go like you're gonna go one.

For a whole like that one milliliter a minute when it's like a newborn like just a tiny tiny bit and you notice how I'm in I'm I put it right into my finger at 45 degrees that way the milk goes in on my finger and the puppy sucks it the milk off my finger if I were to overflow or I would go too fast the milk would go into my finger and then come out the sides of their mouth if I have the syringe pointed down into their their mouth if I accidentally do too much it shoots milk down into their throat which can go down to their lungs and kill them and aspirate them so I I'm close to 90 at the very most.

45 degrees and I just put milk in there and it's gonna it's something's gonna come out as well too but all you need is the drops and the puppy's gonna suck suck and let the puppies suck if you see milk coming out their mouth go less if you see no milk in your mouth go a little faster pace and like I said as they get older you can do faster and faster and faster and a newborn I actually recommend I don't have it out here I recommend a one milliliter syringe which is very skinny and small same length but very skinny and when they get a little older I recommend going with a 10 milliliter syringe because the one milliliter obviously is not enough when they're.

When they're baby babies they're eating anywhere from two to five milliliters like the first couple days when they get a you know two weeks old they're eating 10 20 milliliters you know so that's why you use the bigger one then there's the next stage of feeding feeding your puppies when they're getting done with milk around that four to five to six week range depending on you depending on the puppy depending on how they're developing depending on the mom how she's doing and that's when you start giving them mush with mush we start off very watery and as they get older it gets thicker and thicker and thicker until you eventually start putting in whole pieces or half pieces of food in there for them to.

Chew on and get used to it and then to eventually we're now you're giving them watered-down food um where it makes it a little softer to chew on and then eventually when you're giving hard food so it's a progression and um like I said we normally start around four weeks and then the goal is at eight weeks they're eating they're eating hard kibble we have a grinder dog wet food goat's milk gas black water and that's all we need now you're gonna grind up the food so now they're four weeks old we're gonna grind up the food.

We're gonna grab the food the mix I use is the food wet food and goat's milk yes black powder I make a cup of goat's the milk blood powder with powder and water and I mix it in with the with the crushed up dry food and the wet and that's where they'll start drinking and the way I do it is when they first start it's almost straight very very light watery as they get older and closer to to um to six weeks and seven weeks I make it thicker and thicker and then I start adding in um little pieces of dry food when they're seven weeks old and they start eating that and then I'm good now this mush is very it's pretty watery um.

I'm gonna start thickening up a little bit they're getting a little older but I have you know the mix that I told you in it um three different ingredients it's light it's warm okay not hot it's warm and let's put the puppies on so they'll eat this they love the mush so I like these little dishes too this is make it very easy to feed them.

So they have just just put them there somebody had to dip their nose in a little bit to get them to to like it but these guys already know they're older hey you don't be going if she wants to go pee and poop they'll eat the mush come on what's the matter.

Oh see she just knows him now she knows around three to four weeks they might start eating it he's gonna eat looking look he's gonna eat it this is the first time he's already mush and this is a liquidy mush and you see how down there it gets like it gets thicker and that's what I like is then they start actually having to eat and chew and so that's very.

Because these guys all have teeth but this is fixture switch there we go look at this but this is the stages and then like I said as they get a little older and a couple days I'm going to start putting some hard piece of food in there so they have to chew it and um and then eventually just give them hard food mixed with a little bit of wet food and milk supplement and then eventually it's hard food with with wet food and eventually just hard food at night like like adults get and they'll be in that routine but it's important that if you're feeding them and you notice they're not eating that you make sure you make the meat like in the sense that.

Like okay I gave them this food they're not eating it because they don't like it so I'm gonna go back take it take a step back and then slowly do it it's like a fish tank effect I don't just drop a fish in a new tank in the new temperature you'll kill it you'll shock it you slowly do it and get them to where you want the temperature to be and then you release them and it's the same thing with slowly getting the dogs just to eat hard food because like I noticed if I know sushi doesn't eat hard food in three weeks I'll put some ghost no guess black powder over it and then some and some wet food and then maybe she'll eat.

But more they have to stay eating but puppies are doing great this guy he's not going to eat much of because he's this next week this big boy starts on and then you see how we have we keep them this is like the progression so they start in our in our bins with with um heating pads and towels and stuff there's no there's no more oh this is just freaking gummy mess it's non-stop dogs non-stop dirty life um there's no more heating pad here they don't need a heat pad they're big enough and they they warm each other these guys are uh tomorrow will go into a bin like that with wood chips and they're looking they're starting to walk now as soon as they.

Start walking I move I move them um and make sure it's thick enough wood chips so that they aren't just on plastic and slides them and then these guys are going to go to a bigger a pen with wood chips um because they're just getting too big they're able to jump out of this thing now and that's the progression of growing them into and then eventually they're gonna they're gonna go into the vegetables facility um sushi probably not she's gonna stay with me I love her I love all my ducks but she's my little and see they ate really.

And they have fat bellies you can just see their bellies it's very important that they eat if for some reason the puppy didn't eat and I knew they haven't eaten for a while it's a it's a big problem now I gotta see what's the matter then we gotta start start dealing with it and breaking it down the last stage of course is the adult stage how we feed our adults there are some some some different alternatives to the adult feeding of course there's lots of alternatives in that I know I know my way isn't the only way my way works really well for me I recommend it because I have success with it and I do it there's other people have success with other ways.

So that's fine as well too but my way I like a lot I have a lot of rationality behind it I'll explain some of that and if you know me you've followed follow me in other episodes another stuff you've heard some my of rationalities behind it but with adults um we'll we're going to I'll show you my whole process we feed them the wet food we've even dried food we feed them vitamins we feed them twice a day and we'll get into that as well too so we'll go over I got sushi with me let's put sushi down.

My my sweatshirt so she doesn't slip so even though sushi looks like a baby she's she's like almost eight weeks ready to go home you know like if she would if she were going home but she stay with me now I'm gonna go over feeding the the dogs uh we have our three boots here these are halfway through the adult dogs I have I'm using victor fish origin six fish in a can of grasslands.

I mix it all into this thing right here I know the forest point which I understand and it was a one to one ratio for every one cup of victor I put one cup or a pound so if I put two cups of victor I'm gonna put one for one two cups more than one so it's a one-to-one ratio of my top stuff to victor uh a big.

I put um I think I have a bunch of dogs I mix into a bucket and then I mix my my supplements in there so supplements I use only in the morning october 4th I use the science multivitamin and then I use the glyco flex uh joint and it's actually very good for the the dog's joints and health and tapa is actually very good for the stem they're reproductive organs.

I put the food in here now I talked about it before but it's it's one third cup per 10 pounds per adult okay that rule doesn't apply to puppies obviously this sushi's gonna be eating a lot more than than her body weight uh per like one third cup and then you know five month old puppies more than growing you know but as an adult when a dog becomes an adult um it's one third cup per 10 pounds so the dog is 30 pounds that means your people have gone three one times which is one full cup hey right come on that means you're feeding the dog one cup that's for the day and um of course if you see the dog getting skinny feel more.

If you see the dog getting too fat feel less you know that's why me I personally I personally feed um all my dogs individually they all individually I don't do that thing where they only like as a group then I can't tell how much my dog eats I can't tell if my dog's feeling okay being normal like because the food is one of the biggest indicators.

Yeah so it's very very important to feed your dogs individually um because you can see how they're doing and then you tell how much you're eating and regulate how much more or less food they need and then on top of your dog's actually uh one little key tip to keep if your dog is um.

Under is not as getting light or not gaining weight it could be they have like ones or something so you might want to bring to the vet or um or getting checked or just you want them to treat them or something like that so that's also a thing too especially your feeding dogs a lot you're not getting weight now you can get these darker pills but I don't do this because a lot of guys don't like.

And they won't eat them and so I do I grind them up and this one makes it so um the dogs it just mixes in their food and they don't have to taste it because I mix it in with wet food and two it it leads to better absorption.

The powder making sure the dog adjusts the pill better be actually like studying even with people they take pills like half those pills don't even get digested I don't know that's the exact number but you get my point we still got sushi look at sushi she's just chilling.

She's just super good dog she's just like her dad her dad Escobar is just such a chill dog and she has that same exact temperament mom was a little hype more hyper but sushi has just like that so that's now for I mix in wet food as well too.

And the wet food we use I used this one a lot which is american journey limited ingredients duck and sweet potato I like this one so I mix this one so what I'll do sushi what I'll do is I'll put it in there use about right now I'm feeding 12 dogs.

So I just mix it up so it's easy to stir up and I'll show you if you want to make it like a little bit easier you put some water in there it makes it easier but I don't like doing that that much I'm just ocd um so this is their.

Pour it right on the sticky stuff and then I'm going to do their their um glycol effects vitamin which again is 12 6 7 and this this but this one's easier you don't have to grind them up especially if your dog's like a big time eater some of the dogs would probably just eat this but the other half of dogs would spit out and picky and stuff like that so I just grinded up mixing their food and when they when you mix in the wet food they can't even taste it you have to mix wet food though if you're gonna do this grind thing these all the powder will go to the bottom and it won't stick to the wet food and then you'll just be.

Wasting it again so that's our mix this is all I do and I in the this is the morning routine the morning routine is um is their vitamins at night they just get this they get I follow the rule but I have I have it all set up that I feed my dogs twice a day.

And I just and I followed the feeding rule was one third uh of dog food per 10 pounds so like some of the other 30 pounds so they get one cup a day so they're really only getting like a half cup in the morning half cup a night but some of them are you know 60 pounds of or 55 pounds so they get more you know just depends on on you know the weight of your dogs and stuff but.

I also strongly recommend two times feeding English bulldogs I've said before they they're prone to their to bloat and stomach twisting and prone to overeating so I like to feed twice a day some people think once and it works for them that's fine but I like twice I have my reasons behind it and um and honestly I'm someone that if I have a successful routine things are going well for me I don't change it let's stick with success so this is the consistency it is.

There now I just like that I'm able to give you guys like a more in-depth nutrition I feel like the last one I explained wasn't good enough so that's what I'm feeding them right now and I'm gonna go through feed the dogs their their their um their their portion that I think that they should get if you look at all my dogs they stay very nice healthy but not overweight definitely not underweight and we'll get the morning routine done so we'll get that done right now.

So you guys don't really have to do this but I'm I'm just super ocd and my studs I feed separately um so I want to know exactly like to the grain of food like even though you just saw me do two scoops they're actually and they look the same they're not they're a little different it's like one had like 18 grains left I mean like less than another one.

And the boys I I'm just watch them look really careful and I have to make sure especially for the um the reproductive purposes I like to make sure that they get their nutrients so I don't divide it through like 12 even though it's probably would come out the same thing I individually make sure every single time they get their their vitamins and it's just strictly an ocd thing it's probably straight stupidity but like this is Mr President's right here so like I give him his wet food and this is what you would do if you had like individual dog you know give the wet food.

I put it there it just not it wouldn't work for having as many dogs as we have my studs and presents stuff like that so this is the mix and then boom that's for Mr President right there and then now this one I know is.

This one is furious I give him he gets a little more food I try to put weight on him this is Escobar that's why we're just maintaining weight that's where I'll actually get a little bit too fat so we don't want me too fat.

So that's this is how you would do it for like you know four or five dogs this is the obviously we have a little bit too many to do so that's why I do the big mass production style there but just because I have ocd.

I do it this way so I mash it up these are the only vitamins we do for all our dogs I know some people do more and then some recommendation stuff like I said there's not there's not just one way of doing raising dogs or doing all this stuff so a lot of people have other success the only thing I recommend when taking advice from anyone okay there's different ways to do stuff is that the person you're taking advice from has success in what they're doing so like yes there's people that feed their dogs this but they have success with it are their dogs healthy do they have a program do they have like long-term success with it and if they do then it's probably.

A good method it's proven you know so yeah everything has to be proven you know and obviously I think people who say you know they don't like what I do or for feeding but I can't argue because it's proven you know I have very healthy English bulldogs I don't have skin problems I don't have the the the feet problems I don't have any of those things um my dog's coats look amazing they're full because it's proven just like like I'm saying so this goes Escobar.

So it's also that's why it's so to monitor your dogs because I know that sparkling until we eat half something and that's not a problem um but if he doesn't need any other could be he could be feeling a little bad and then I want to take care of that.

I know Fury shitty all I know Mr President Mr President might not even even touch his stop yeah Mr President might not even touch his food and that's normal if it wasn't normal there would be a big problem so that's that's why it's so important to know your dogs.

How they react how they they they do their things because if they change up their eating routine whatever there's a reason for it they don't feel good they can be sick they can have a freaking thorn in their foot all kinds of things also I wanted to talk a little bit about micro mini bulldogs now I know there's one type of AKC registered bulldog which is you know a bulldog English bulldog sushi is an English bulldog but just like everything there's development there's new breeds coming out there are many bulldogs and there's not an official class for them yet but I would like to specify what we consider a mini bulldog so an a and an English bulldog the standard English bulldog is 14 to.

17 inches tall that's that's the AKC um regulations and then the weight is 40 to 60 pounds um depending on if it's a female or male and that's the standard English bulldog now a mini bulldog obviously a mini is going to be smaller than that it's going to be smaller than 14 inches and it's going to be in that lower weight range so it's going to be in that 30 to 45 pound weight range and obviously smaller looking you know under 14 inches probably 13 12 11 inches that's what I consider a mini bulldog which is 11 to 13 inches and then anything below 11 in that 10 inch and below range is a micro bulldog so I know a lot of people ask what's.

A mini what's a micro they are just English bulldogs they're just smaller English bulldogs and we're classifying them now because you know when you go out with you know a micro bullet says oh I've never seen him like that so yeah you're gonna seem like that because we're it's you know it's a new thing and eventually we're hoping that it's going to be recognized by the AKC just like you know miniature pinchers are recognized and all these other other breeds that were now the mini version of the big dog are recognized it just takes time and uh and proper ethical breeding I know a lot of people uh like to say that you know the amazing microbes have a lot more health problems and statistically speaking.

You're probably right because a lot of the minis and the micros are bred wrong by people that are only breeding for size so if a dog is barely moving or can't move right not functional they'll still breed it to make small because that dog's small and that's super irresponsible and we don't do that um so it's very relative to the situation people say oh do they have more health problems it's relative they could have more health problems if I mean a regular standard English blog could have more health problems it's just all going to be dictated and relative to the program you're getting from the parents you're getting it from the breeder you're gay from how ethical they are with everything so it's extremely.

Relative you know and people say oh they have more health problems that's not true at all a mini could have could have way better health than a standard a standard of way better health than many just statistically speaking a minnie and mike are gonna have more health problems because of unethical obviously uh with our program the best bowls we're trying to change that we're trying to produce extremely healthy functional uh amazing peppermint really pretty looking small dogs and that's what we're doing sushi is a prime example that um she's extremely extremely functional as she is right now she's seven weeks old on the spectrum she's the smallest I've ever seen at this age the lightest most compact she's just insane we're expecting her to be.

Around nine inches tall super functional her mom was functional run jump everything her dad is functional run jump breathe good health tested behavior wise they're good so in my opinion it was an ethical breed to put those two together and produce this small dog because we're hitting all those other aspects as well too which is very important and I just wish people would not focus on just one aspect if you're just focused on one aspect that's how you that's how you produce badly bred dogs you're just focused on color you're focusing your focus on badly bread dogs they have to be healthy they have to function they have to have a good temperament if they have those three things then we're looking at structure we're.

Pairing them up structurally based on what we're trying to accomplish and this is to date I think one of my best productions ever because the sushi 2.0 we'll be doing the whole episode with her all the food and everything so stay so new developments in the best bulls uh ranch life like we always do we're always doing construction um we're building everything we finally got the outdoor pen roof up uh so it's coming it's a big l around that whole whole facility it covers the whole back side and one of the short sides and that's going to give the dogs nice shade uh and keep them dry if they want to be in their outdoor portion of their pens where they can go outdoor.

And indoor with their doggy doors um we've we've taken a crazy amount of time and thought into into building this um because it has to it it has to be able to accommodate the dogs has to be able to have a sewage system in there has to be able to stay clean be comfortable dogs and I think we've done.

Nowhere near done we have the pens oh my god show you the pens right now we have the pens coming in from portugal and um they should be here they're getting shipped next week so they're gonna be on ship they're looking about a month and a half until they're installed but they're really nice super excited about that.

I'm super proud of this because it's the sewage system is my design we had some problems and then obviously brainstorming with other professionals construction guys I came up with a good idea this whole pad is that a slant we've already talked about we have these holes every four feet we have these four by five inch holes ask about what's up boy what's up boy what's hey my boy that's the man we have these four by five inch holes every four feet and when we you um the the slant of the pad is gonna push the you know the fluid and the poop down that way and also we're gonna spray it we have nozzles installed.

Where we'll have hoses here we're gonna spray everything out the pens are gonna be here and um goes all the way down there as well too uh and then it's gonna go down out those holes those holes are gonna have a grate on them and if you look over here it's hard to imagine right now but we have this is gonna be where a trough is down there you look down it goes all the way down so the whole outside is gonna have you will never see this it'll be covered with dirt it's going to have this pvc pipe encased in so it'll be a trough and that'll be going down into a 500 gallon sewage tank and the whole outside being case in concrete.

You never know it's there just to have these grates and it's probably hard for you to envision it right now but when it's done it'd be very nice pens will be here we have these doors there will be doors and you'll walk up and then we have our huge play area that's going to be 150 by 70 for dogs so you follow me we have the play area.

That will be all back here 150 by 70. Now you can really see roof was done nice yeah mason he owns the company and he came out built this he built this thing in two days pretty much obviously you took a while either the pad and the wall poured but really nice structurally really nice structure and uh it's going to make it extremely comfortable for the dogs to be able to go inside outside stay in the shade stay and then uh for us to regulate and be able to dictate you know their health and their comfort one thing I'm not happy about is acs so you literally the acs should not be under where the dog pens are they'll suck up too much um they're.

Not getting enough exhaust room up there so I now have to pay for this ac to get moved and the other ac that's going to be installed to be over that side so it's part of the game you know it's like this is not like a standard thing where people know how to build a state-of-the-art dog facility so live and learn now what I'm super excited about is over here where we have now jets inside the sewage pipe at the top of every sewage pipe is that they start higher and they go down into the sewage tank so the jet right here can be turned.
